Hit the Trail
Mackinac Island offers a myriad of scenic paths and trails to explore, the majority of which are part of the Mackinac Island State Park. Guests can select from over 70 miles of trails, the longest of which is the Tranquil Bluff Trail. In addition to the Tranquil Bluff Trail, popular hiking spots on the on North side of the island include the Packard, Lydia, Partridge, and Swamp Trails, each varying in length. The Southern and Central parts of the island’s trails include Indian Pipe, Juniper, Cliftview, and Lost Bear.
For one of the most breathtaking views, including stunning optics of Mackinac Bridge and Mackinac Straits, follow Lake Shore Drive, which runs along the coast of the island. You can easily traverse most of these trails with almost any form of transportation – pull on your hiking boots, rent a bike, or arrange for a ride on horseback, but be aware that horseback riding is not allowed on Lakeshore Drive. However, hikers and bikers are welcome, and the scenic coast route can still be viewed from a horse and buggy you can rent and drive on your own. Ready to hit the trail?
