Old-Fashioned Holiday Fun
Traditionally, the holidays have always been about spending time with family and friends, appreciating life's gifts, and helping those who are in need. Each year, in keeping with these traditions, the people of Mackinac Island throw the annual Mackinac Island Christmas Bazaar. Not far from many Mackinac Island hotels, folks meet at the Mackinac Island Fire Hall to eat, bid, and bargain hunt, all to raise money for the Mackinac Island Medical Center and the island's historic houses of worship. The old-fashioned fun begins in the evening on Friday, December 5th, in the middle of Main Street, where people convene to sing holiday carols and watch the lighting of the Mackinac Island Christmas Tree. Afterwards, many participants continue their caroling while enjoying a hay ride in the brisk evening air. Meanwhile, the rummage sale opens its doors, hot cocoa is served, and early birds start their bargain hunting. On Saturday, Santa arrives after lunch, and the kids can enjoy some arts and crafts. There's also a live auction. The food, fun, bidding, and bargain hunting continue all weekend long. Reminiscent of the way that holidays were celebrated in a simpler time, this annual Mackinac Island event is guaranteed to get you in the holiday spirit. Plus, it should warm your heart to know that the money you spend at this event is going to support local organizations doing meaningful charitable work.
